Javanese name is commonly derived from the Javanese language; many of which came from the Sanskrit.

These names were also influenced by Arabic cultures, especially among people who have strong Islamic traditions, such as the north coast of Java.

Many Javanese people have only one name. For examples, the first and second president of Indonesia, Soekarno and Soeharto.

Due to the influence of external cultures, some people began to add surnames.

Some of Javanese people may used patronymic name, for example the name of the 4th President of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid, derived from his father’s name, Wahid Hasyim.
